What is Technology Education?
What is technology education? Is it the study of “how things work”? Is it the study of “design”? Is it “technical problem-solving?” Is it the development of “technological literacy”? Is it “pre-engineering education”? More than likely one would note that technology education is a discipline that encompasses all of these areas and more.
From our humble beginnings as manual arts in the Imperial Locomotive Works, to Boston Manual Arts High School (now MIT), to our prominent place in the Morrill Act of 1862, manual arts, now technology education, has provided both the career exploration and skill development for its students.
The Technology Education Division strives to serve all of the technology education profession from middle-level to high school to teacher education, whether the subject content that is taught includes construction, communication, manufacturing, power and energy, transportation, or pre-engineering.
The Technology Education Division seeks to work with all professional associations in the technology education arena to advance the discipline. This is accomplished through active participation of the Division’s members in both ACTE endeavors and activities of fellow professional associations.
