Congratulations to Nikki Carter, chosen as the new CACTE LEGISLATIVE FELLOW! Nikki is starting a 2-year program in fellowship with the CACTE Legislative Committee to develop a strong understanding of state and national CTE policy. Thanks to the CACTE Legislative Committee for their hard work in creating this new opportunity!

From Nikki's application letter: "As a Fellow I hope to:

  • Gain firsthand experience in state-level education policy and understand how legislative decisions directly impact CTE programming, funding, and equity.

  • Develop stronger communication and advocacy skills to effectively represent the interests of educators, students, and industry partners in policy conversations.

  • Establish connections with stakeholders (policymakers/educators) to collaboratively influence decisions that support and expand access to high-quality CTE.

  • Bring back actionable insight to inform local initiatives and empower colleagues to engage in advocacy at the school and district levels.

  • Serving in this capacity offers an invaluable opportunity to grow as a leader, deepen my understanding of the legislative process, and strengthen the needs and successes of CTE.  I intend to use the knowledge and relationships gained to champion equitable programs that prepare all students for success in careers, college and life."

Kory Shick will continue as the year 2 CACTE Legislative Fellow, serving as a mentor to Nikki and learning more about advocacy at the national level.
