CACTE LEGISLATIVE FELLOWSHIP

The CACTE Legislative Fellowship is a 2-year program that elevates a Fellow’s understanding of state and national CTE policy.

 

As a CACTE Legislative Fellow, you will:

  • Engage in the state legislative process

  • Be an advocate for K12 and Postsecondary CTE policy

  • Become an ambassador for CTE

  • Connect elected officials to CTE events

  • Partner with the CACTE Legislative Committee

  • Engage in WBL policy conversations with business partners

 

The Legislative Fellowship is a 2-year commitment

LEGISLATIVE FELLOWS

Nikki Carter, 2025–2027 CACTE Legislative Fellow, Year 1


Nikki Carter currently serves as the CTE Director for Widefield School District 3, where she has worked since 2005. Her previous roles in the district include Business Teacher and Work-Based Learning Coordinator. In her current position, she oversees Perkins, program approvals, and CTA reporting, and supports Widefield’s off-site skilled trades facility at the MiLL (Manufacturing Industry Learning Lab). Nikki also serves on the boards of Project Diakonia, the National Woods Board, and Data-Driven Economic Strategies in Colorado Springs.

 

Before entering education, Nikki worked in the aviation industry as a flight attendant, flight attendant trainer, and corporate trainer with Harrah’s Entertainment. She has been published in ACTE Techniques magazine and has presented at CACTE and Region V conferences. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, skiing, and camping with her family. Nikki holds a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Business, a Master’s degree in Education, and a K–12 Principal License, and is the proud mother of two sons.​

Kory Shick, 2024–2026 CACTE Legislative Fellow, Year 2


A dedicated special education teacher and president of the CACTE ACE Division, Kory is committed to empowering age 18–21 transition and special populations students through hands-on learning, 3D printing, and community-based experiences. He brings a distinctive blend of creativity, advocacy, and policy insight to his work, advancing Career and Technical Education (CTE) access and developing inclusive programs that equip every learner for independence, meaningful employment, and lifelong success.
